Rooiberg Wander is a 3-night, 3-day slackpacking trail across 15,000 hectares of Big 5 reserve near Rooiberg in Limpopo, located just 2.5 hours from OR Tambo International Airport. Both self-catered and fully catered options are available to suit your group’s needs.
You walk from one private lodge to the next while your luggage and provisions are moved ahead each day. You carry only a daypack.

Big 5 on foot
Mountain summits, deep valleys, riverbeds and open plains, crossed on foot with two experienced trail guides rather than viewed from a vehicle.
Unpack and walk
You carry only a daypack. Your food, drinks and bags travel ahead to the next lodge each day, kept cool and dry.
Exclusive
Take the whole trail exclusively: a Wednesday or Thursday start for exactly 8 guests, perfect for a family reunion, friends’ getaway or corporate team-building. The trail and each lodge are reserved solely for your group, self-catered or catered.
Shared departure
Prefer to join others? Start any other day of the week, ideal for smaller family groups or friends. The first booking opens the date at 2 or more people, with later bookings topping up to a maximum of 8.
Step by step
How the trail works

Choose your dates and book
Pick a start date and pay securely online. Full payment is due 45 days before arrival; a 50% deposit holds dates booked 45 or more days ahead.

Arrive at Temminck's Lodge on start day
Park securely, unpack, register and meet your two guides. If you are settled in before 16h00, you will take a short walk to Matopo Lookout Point for drinks. There is no walking schedule on the arrival day.

Walk from lodge to lodge
Three walking days of 15 to 20 km, sleeping at a different lodge each night. Your bags travel ahead.

Finish and head home
After the final morning walk, arrive at Temminck's Lodge, freshen up, collect your car or meet your shuttle, and drive home.
